The Yonkers High School Bulldogs Boys Varsity Basketball team battled through a challenging road matchup on Monday night, December 8, 2025, falling to the Roosevelt Sharks by a final score of 77–57 in a highly anticipated crosstown rivalry game.
The atmosphere inside the gym reflected the intensity of the matchup, as hundreds of fans from both schools packed the stands to witness the latest chapter in this long-standing rivalry. From the opening tip, the Sharks set a fast pace and managed to outscore the Bulldogs in each quarter. Despite the uphill battle on the scoreboard, Yonkers competed with grit and determination throughout all four quarters.
Roosevelt once again proved to be a difficult opponent for the Bulldogs, extending a recent stretch of dominance in the series. Yonkers has now come up short in its last nine meetings against the Sharks, a statistic that only adds motivation for a young Bulldogs squad determined to turn the tide in future matchups.
Individually, several Bulldogs rose to the occasion and delivered strong performances. Shael Lopez led the team offensively with an impressive 18-point outing, consistently attacking the basket and keeping Yonkers within striking distance early on. Luke Runge added nine points, while Justin Rosado contributed eight points and provided energy on both ends of the floor.
First-year head coach Julius Henry knew his team was facing a tough test against an experienced Roosevelt squad. While the final score did not reflect the outcome the Bulldogs were hoping for, Coach Henry was encouraged by his team’s effort, competitiveness, and continued growth. With a roster still finding its identity, each game represents a valuable learning experience as the season progresses.
The loss drops Yonkers’ record to 0–2, but the Bulldogs remain optimistic and focused on improvement. The team has shown flashes of potential and is steadily building chemistry with each matchup.
Yonkers will look to regroup and bounce back when they return home to face the Lincoln Lancers on December 16th. With the season still in its early stages, the Bulldogs are showing signs of progress and are eager to put together a complete performance in front of their home crowd.
As the team continues to develop under Coach Henry’s leadership, the Bulldogs remain confident that their hard work will translate into results as the season moves forward.
